    The meaning of Huatulco, Coatulco o Guatulco is, “the place to worship wood”, because “Quahuilt”, means wood, “Toloa”, means worship and the syllable “Co” refers to “place”.

    This denomination was originated due to the cult of a wooden cross that was found near the port of Huatulco, placed there – according to the legend – by an enigmatic character 1500 years before the arrival of the conquistadors.
